Add an AI chatbot to Squarespace
Paste one script.Teach it your pages.
You can add an AI chatbot to Squarespace on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan: paste the chatbot’s script into Code Injection, save, and check it in a private window. Basic and Personal plans have no Code Injection, and checkout pages don’t run code, so the bot won’t be there while someone pays. The chatbot then needs something to read, which on Squarespace means knowing what its sitemap leaves out. The planner below turns your plan and site into a checklist.

Can you add an
AI chatbot to
Squarespace?
Yes, on Core and up.
Yes, if your plan has Code Injection. A chatbot for your visitors is a script, and Squarespace runs the scripts you paste into its Code Injection panel. That panel is on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans and on some older ones. It isn’t on Basic or Personal.
Squarespace doesn’t have a chatbot of its own for visitors. The AI features in its help center are for the person building the site (below). So the way in is the same for every chatbot, Builderify’s included: a snippet in the Header, saved, and checked on the live site. For a live chat you answer yourself, see live chat for Squarespace.
| Plan | Code Injection | A chatbot script |
|---|---|---|
| Basic and Personal | Not available | No |
| Core | Available | Yes |
| Plus | Available | Yes |
| Advanced | Available | Yes |
| Business, Commerce Basic and Commerce Advanced (older plans) | Available | Yes |
| Other older plans | On some | Check |

Squarespace AI
Drafts text for you in text blocks, blog posts, product descriptions, email campaigns and more. You review it before it goes on your site.
Blueprint AI
Builds a starter site from a few prompts, with a template, text and images for you to edit.
Clarkson AI chat
A chat inside the editor that changes text, products and styles from your prompts. Squarespace is rolling it out in waves, so your site may not have it yet.
None of the three answers a visitor’s question on your live site. For that you add a chatbot, and Squarespace’s way to add one is a script in Code Injection. From Squarespace’s Using Squarespace AI help page, updated 28 October 2026.
How do you add an AI chatbot
to Squarespace?
Teach it first, then paste one snippet.
Set the chatbot up before you add it to your site, so the first visitor who sees it gets real answers. The same five steps work for any chatbot that installs with a script; the screens named here are Builderify’s.
-
01
Set the chatbot up first
In Builderify, add the AI Chatbot block to your Floating Bubble and give it something to read (chapter 04). That way the first visitor who sees it gets real answers.
-
02
Copy your snippet
Open Install Builderify in your dashboard and copy your snippet. It is the same line for every page and every platform.
-
03
Open Code Injection
On version 7.1: Pages › Custom Code › Code Injection. On version 7.0: Settings › Advanced › Code Injection. If your menu says Website Tools rather than Custom Code, look inside it for Code Injection.
-
04
Paste it into Header and save
Paste the whole snippet, from
<script>to</script>, into the Header field. Leave anything already there, and leave Footer alone. Click Save. -
05
Check it on the live site
Open your site’s address in a private window, which Squarespace says is how to see custom code running. Then press Check now in Install Builderify: it says Installed once it sees the snippet.
Not on checkout
Squarespace says checkout pages don’t support code, so no chatbot appears there. Order confirmation and order status pages have a code field of their own, and so does the Lock page, if you want the bot on those.
Only some pages? Use page rules
Squarespace can inject code into one page: hover it in Pages, click the gear icon, then Advanced. With Builderify you don’t need to. The snippet goes in once, and your Floating Bubble’s page rules include or exclude pages by URL pattern.
You’re on your own with the code
Squarespace warns that custom code can break a site’s appearance or behavior, especially on mobile, and its support can’t troubleshoot it. Look at your phone after you save.
What does your Squarespace site
need before it has a chatbot?
Your plan, your pages, your tests.
Pick your plan, your version and what is on your site, and the planner writes your checklist: whether your plan can run the script, where to paste it, what to teach the bot first and the tests to run before a visitor does. It starts with a plan and a store already chosen; change anything. Nothing you pick leaves your browser.
Core · version 7.1
Your plan can run the script.
Code injection is part of Core, so one snippet in the Header covers every page except checkout.
Where to paste it
- 1Copy your snippet from Install Builderify in your Builderify dashboard.
- 2In Squarespace, open Pages › Custom Code › Code Injection.
- 3Paste the whole snippet into the Header field, leave anything already there, and click Save.
- 4Open your site’s address in a private window, then press Check now in Install Builderify. It says Installed once it sees the snippet.
Where it will show
- Every page except checkout. Squarespace says checkout pages don’t support code.
- Customers can’t see it while they pay, so answer shipping and returns questions on the pages before checkout.
Teach it first
- Prices, and what each one includes
- Opening hours, your address and how to reach you
- The questions you answer by email every week
- What you don’t do or sell
- Shipping times, costs and the countries you ship to
- Returns, refunds and exchanges
- Sizes, materials and care for your best sellers
Test it before visitors do
- 1Open your live site in a private window, not the Squarespace editor, and look for the bubble on your home page and one inner page, on your phone too.
- 2Ask something your pages answer, such as your opening hours. The answer should match what the page says.
- 3Ask something they don’t cover, like a discount you never offered. A good result is your fallback line, not a confident guess.
- 4Ask to talk to a person, then check the conversation arrives in your Builderify conversation list.
- 5Ask about shipping to a country you don’t ship to. It should repeat what you wrote, not guess.
The plan check is Squarespace’s own list
It comes from Squarespace’s help center on 1 November 2026. Squarespace changes plans and menus from time to time, so check the panel in your own account before you pay for an upgrade.
It can’t see your site
The planner doesn’t read your Squarespace account or your code. To check for an old chat script hiding in your Code Injection fields, use the code checker in the live chat guide.
Read the first week
Every question the bot hands over is a page or a Q&A you haven’t written yet. How to train a chatbot on your content shows how to turn each one into an answer.
What can an AI chatbot read
on a Squarespace site?
Most pages. Not everything on them.
Builderify finds your pages through your sitemap and reads the text of each one, up to 100 pages in one import. Squarespace publishes the sitemap for you at /sitemap.xml and leaves some things out of it. Here is what that means for a bot, from Squarespace’s sitemap help page and the importer’s own limits.
| On your Squarespace site | Can the bot read it? | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page text, blog posts and product pages | Yes | It reads the text a visitor sees. Squarespace lists your pages in its sitemap, so a sitemap import finds them. | Import your site, then check the pages that matter. |
| Pages you hid from search results | Not by sitemap | Squarespace leaves them out of its sitemap, though anyone with the address can still open them. | Add each one by address. |
| A password-protected page or site | No | They are left out of the sitemap, and the bot sees what a visitor who isn’t signed in sees. | Write what is behind the password as Q&As. |
| Embed, code and scheduler blocks | No | What an embed shows comes from another site, not from your page, and Squarespace doesn’t list it in your sitemap. | Write the answers as Q&As. |
| Menus and price lists saved as images | No | A bot reads text, not pictures. | Retype them as text on the page. |
| PDFs you link to | Not from the page | Squarespace leaves uploaded files out of its sitemap, and the importer skips PDF links. | Upload the PDF as a document, up to 10 MB. |
| A site with more than 100 pages | The first 100 | One import takes up to 100 pages. | Import what visitors ask about, then add the rest by address or as Q&As. |
| A trial site | By links | Squarespace doesn’t publish a sitemap for trial sites, so the import follows links from your start page instead. | Check the pages it found. |
Sitemap rules from Squarespace’s View your site map and Hiding your site from search results pages, read on 1 November 2026. Builderify’s limits are from its importer and the training guide.
Read your sitemap before the bot does.
-
1
Open your sitemap
Add /sitemap.xml to your domain, such as https://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. Squarespace updates it within an hour, and sometimes up to 24.
-
2
Look for the pages that matter
Your pricing, shipping, returns and contact pages should be there. A page that isn’t was hidden, disabled or password-protected.
-
3
Add what is missing
In your chatbot’s knowledge, add a hidden page by address or write the answer as a Q&A. Then ask the bot about it in the Try it panel.
Why isn’t the chatbot
showing on my Squarespace site?
Seven things to check, in order.
Most of the time it is the editor, the plan or the field. Work down the list and stop at the first one that fits; each takes a minute to rule out.
-
01
You’re looking at the editor
Squarespace can turn scripts off in its preview, and says to open your site’s address in a private window to see custom code. Do that first.
-
02
It’s a checkout page
Squarespace says checkout pages don’t support code. Check your home page or a product page instead.
-
03
Your plan doesn’t have Code Injection
Basic and Personal don’t. If you downgraded, Squarespace turns code injection off by itself, so a snippet that worked can stop.
-
04
It’s in the wrong place
The snippet belongs in the Header field of the site-wide Code Injection panel, saved. A page’s own Page Header Code Injection only affects that page.
-
05
A page rule hides it
In your Floating Bubble, check the page rules. They include or exclude pages by URL pattern, and one may match this page.
-
06
Check now says “Not on your homepage yet”
Install Builderify loads your home page from our server, logged out, and looks for your own snippet, so a site still behind a password, or a snippet pasted but not saved, doesn’t pass.
-
07
The bubble shows, but not the chatbot
Open the Floating Bubble and check the AI Chatbot block is added. Then ask it a question in the Try it panel: with nothing to read, it hands the question over.
Builderify’s AI chatbot on Squarespace:
the same snippet as everything else.
The AI chatbot is a block in Builderify’s Floating Bubble, so the snippet you pasted also carries Live Chat, popups and anything else you switch on, with no second script and no separate chatbot account. Squarespace popups use the same snippet.
Reads what you give it
Pages by address or by sitemap, up to 100 at a time, files up to 10 MB, text you paste and Q&As you write.
Says when it doesn’t know
When nothing in your knowledge matches, it sends the fallback line you wrote instead of guessing, and the model isn’t asked at all.
Hands over to you
Talk to a person passes the conversation to you, and handed-over questions land in your conversation list under a filter of their own.
A chatbot you pay for by the answer.
You pay for answers at what each one cost to produce, and every conversation shows its own running total. Questions your knowledge can’t answer never reach the model, so they cost nothing. Squarespace itself charges nothing extra for the script: Code Injection is part of the plan. See the pricing page for the whole rate card.

When it isn’t the right fit
It won’t help if you are on Basic and don’t want to upgrade, if your answers live in images and PDFs you won’t retype, since it reads text, or if you want a bot inside checkout, where no script can run. Tell visitors they are talking to an AI: the disclosure guide covers the wording, and how to stop a chatbot making things up has fifteen questions to test it with.
Teach the bot your pages first, then paste the snippet once. Start with how to train a chatbot on your own content, and bring the same snippet to callback requests for the questions a bot should hand to you.

Yes, on the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, and on some older plans. A chatbot is a script, and Squarespace runs the scripts you paste into the Header field of Code Injection. Basic and Personal plans don't have Code Injection, so the script has nowhere to go.
Not one its help center describes. Squarespace AI drafts text and builds starter sites, and Clarkson AI chat lets you edit your own site with prompts, so all of it is for the person building the site. To answer visitors' questions you add a chatbot with a script.
Into the Header field of Code Injection: Pages, Custom Code, Code Injection on version 7.1, or Settings, Advanced, Code Injection on 7.0. Paste the whole snippet, click Save, then open your site's address in a private window to check it, because the editor preview can switch scripts off.
Squarespace says checkout pages don't support code, so no chatbot script runs there. Order confirmation and order status pages have a code field of their own if you want it after the purchase. Answer shipping and returns questions on the pages before checkout, where the bot can run.
Builderify's can. It finds your pages through the sitemap Squarespace publishes at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and reads their text, up to 100 pages in one import. Squarespace leaves hidden, password-protected and disabled pages out of that sitemap, and a bot can't read text inside images. Add hidden pages by address and write the other answers as Q&As.
Yes. Squarespace can inject code into a single page from its settings under Advanced, but with Builderify you paste the snippet once and use page rules in the Floating Bubble to include or exclude pages by URL pattern. That leaves one snippet to maintain.
Squarespace charges nothing extra for the script, because Code Injection is part of the plan, and the chatbot is billed by its own vendor. Builderify's runs on the 250 free credits every account gets each month, charges for answers at what each one cost to produce and has no monthly fee. One-time credit packs start at $9.
