Automated lead follow-up for your website
The popup is the easy part. What happens next is the flow.
Nothing to integrate. A few choices to make. Collecting an email is one module; following up on it is three more, and they only help each other when a few settings agree. This is the whole line, station by station: what each one hands to the next, the one setting that makes the handoff work, and what a month of it costs.
Ask once, at the right moment.
And say where the answer goes.
A popup is the front door of the line. Choose when it appears, choose who may see it, then make the one choice that turns it from a popup into the start of a flow: the lead list it writes into. A popup that collects an address can write straight into a chosen list, so every submission arrives ready to be followed up.
- The moment
- Exit intent for a last offer, or a delay, a scroll depth or a number of page views for a gentler one. Once per session stops it showing twice in a visit.
- Who sees it
- Limit it by device, new or returning visitor, referrer and page. An offer on a first order belongs in front of new visitors.
- After submit
- Show a success panel, close straight away, or redirect. If your goal will be a thank-you page, redirect there.
One list is the hinge.
Everything after it reads from it.
Popups, custom forms, newsletter blocks and discount codes all write into the same place: Leads. A list has a name, a description and a colour, and it is the one thing the next station listens to. Keep a list for each promise you make, so the follow-up for that promise only has to be written once.
- Status
- A contact arrives as Subscribed, or as Awaiting confirmation when the list asks new signups to confirm first. Only subscribed contacts get sequences and broadcasts, and unsubscribed and bounced addresses are skipped on every send, with no suppression list for you to keep.
- Source
- Each contact records where it came from and which popup or form produced it, which is how you see what actually builds the list.
- Already have some?
- Existing contacts come in by CSV, and any filtered view exports back out.
Write it once.
Every lead walks the whole thing.
A sequence is a timeline of emails. Each one has a day offset counted from the moment that particular lead joined, not from when the last email went out. Someone who joins today gets the day-0 email today and the day-6 email six days from today, whatever anyone else is doing.
- Start from
- The Welcome series template: three emails over a week, on day 0, day 2 and day 6, already drafted. Edit every line, or switch one email off without disturbing the days around it.
- Personal
- First name, last name, full name, email and the unsubscribe link work as merge tags, in the subject line as well as the body.
- Leaving
- Anyone who unsubscribes or hard bounces leaves the sequence on the spot. Pause it and enrolments hold their place.
Decide what winning is.
Then let the line count it.
A goal in User Journey is a URL pattern plus a name. Once it exists, every visitor who reaches that page is recorded against it, and the report shows which sources, pages and campaigns produced them. Read it next to what Leads and Sequences already report and the whole line is on the table.
Illustrative numbers. Each module reports its own piece, so read them side by side.
- Pick the page
- The order confirmation or thank-you URL. The guide to tracking conversions by URL has a free pattern tester.
- Consent
- In the EU or UK, switch on Wait for cookie consent and journeys are only recorded for people who allowed analytics.
- Testing it
- To compare two versions of the popup or the page, A/B Testing is its own module, with its own goals.
- Then what?
- The same pieces fit other jobs. A bot that hands over to a person, or a quiz that sorts who books.
Replay one lead’s first week.
Change a rule, watch it move.
These are the rules a sequence really follows, small enough to poke at: which weekday her day 0 lands on, whether weekends are skipped, whether the sequence was already on when she joined, and what happens if she unsubscribes.
- Fri · day 0 Your 10% code is inside Goes out as she joins.
- Sun · day 2 What most people buy first Goes out on schedule.
- Thu · day 6 Still thinking it over? Goes out on schedule.
This lead used 2.5 credits: 1 for the new lead, plus 3 emails at 0.5.
Four things get counted.
All from one balance.
The line draws on one balance of Usage Credits. A new lead, an email sent, a page load with the widget on it and a tracked visitor journey each have a rate on the pricing page. Every account gets 250 free credits a month, packs start at $9, and purchased credits never expire.
Every page opened with the widget on it.
Each tracked visitor journey is one unit.
Captured by the popup.
The Welcome series has three.
- Page loads 10 credits per 1,000 50
- Visitor journeys 0.1 credits per tracked visitor 80
- New leads 1 credit per new lead 40
- Emails sent 0.5 credits per email, per recipient 60
It fits inside the free credits, with 20 to spare.
Over by 0 credits. One Starter pack (1,000 credits, $9) covers that for about 0 months at this size. Purchased credits never expire.
- The rate card has no charge for creating a popup, a list, a sequence or a goal. Credits are drawn by usage.
- Sequences send from the same verified domain as your broadcasts, so connect it once: SPF, DKIM and DMARC, step by step.
Six ways the line goes quiet,
and the setting behind each.
- Cause
- The sequence is still a draft. It stays in draft until a sender domain is connected, an audience list is selected, at least one email is active and every email has a subject and body.
- Fix
- Open the sequence, clear the four checks, then switch it on. Nothing sends before that. If the domain is the missing check, this guide walks through it.
- Cause
- The list asks new signups to confirm first. Until someone clicks the link in the confirmation email they receive nothing from a sequence or a broadcast, and if no sending domain is ready that email cannot go out at all.
- Fix
- Open the list. The Awaiting confirmation count shows who is waiting, and the page says so when the reason is a sending domain that is not ready yet; they get the email automatically once it is. You can also resend the confirmation from the list.
- Cause
- Auto-enrolment covers anyone who joins the list from the moment the sequence is on. Contacts who were already in the list are not started automatically.
- Fix
- Run backfill once the sequence is live. They are enrolled then, and their clock starts from that moment.
- Cause
- Once per session only covers the current visit. A returning visitor is a new session.
- Fix
- Use the popup’s audience rules: show it to new visitors only, and exclude the thank-you page with a page rule.
- Cause
- Each email is timed from the day the lead joined, so day 2 falls wherever the calendar puts it.
- Fix
- Turn on skip weekends to push a weekend send to the next weekday, and set a delivery window so nothing arrives at 4am.
- Cause
- The goal’s URL pattern does not match the page people really land on, or the order confirmation lives on another domain.
- Fix
- Test the pattern against the real URL with the tester in the conversion tracking guide. If the shop is on a separate domain, cross-domain tracking covers it.
Lead follow-up, before you ask.
It is a series of emails that goes out on its own to everyone who joins a list, timed from the day each person joined. In Builderify a popup writes the contact into a lead list, a sequence runs on that list, and a goal in User Journey counts who reached the page that matters.
No. Popups and forms write new contacts into your lead lists, Sequences runs on those lists, and the emails go out from the same verified domain as your broadcasts. All of it loads from the one script tag already on your site, so there is nothing to integrate.
Start with the Welcome series template: three emails over a week, on day 0, day 2 and day 6, already drafted. You can edit every line, and switch a single email off without disturbing the days around it.
Each new lead is 1 credit, each email sent is 0.5 credits per recipient, page loads with the widget on them are 10 credits per 1,000 and each tracked visitor journey is 0.1 credits. Every account gets 250 free credits a month, packs start at $9 and purchased credits never expire.
A sequence stays in draft until four things are true: a sender domain is connected, an audience list is selected, at least one email is active and every email has a subject and body. Switch it on once all four are checked, because nothing sends before that.
Anyone who joins the list from then on starts the sequence automatically. People already on the list can be enrolled once with backfill, and their clock starts from that moment.
