Intercom Fin alternative for small business
99 cents a conversation.
Including the ones
that just went quiet.
Intercom’s Fin AI agent costs $0.99 per outcome. An outcome is counted when a customer says they’re sorted, when they don’t ask for more help after Fin replies, or when Fin completes a workflow, handoffs included. On Intercom it sits on top of seats from $29 a month; on another helpdesk, there’s a monthly minimum. Fin answers from your own content, and for a support team with volume it earns its price. For a small site with an FAQ, a chatbot billed at the AI’s actual cost is usually the cheaper fit. Below: how Fin is priced, your own bill at your volume, an honest side-by-side with Builderify’s AI chatbot, and a checker that tells you whether your FAQ is ready for either.

Intercom Fin pricing,
and what counts as an outcome.
Fin is billed per outcome, at $0.99, and you pay once per conversation however many questions it answers. The definition is broader than “solved”: a visitor who reads Fin’s reply and closes the tab counts, and so does a conversation Fin hands to a person through a workflow.
That is fair for a support team, where a quiet customer usually is a helped one. On a small business site, where many chats are a single question from someone browsing, it means paying for most conversations Fin takes part in.
An outcome is counted when
-
1
A customer confirms their issue is resolvedThe case everyone expects.
-
2
They don’t ask for more help after Fin respondsIncluding a visitor who simply leaves.
-
3
Fin completes a workflow, including handoffsA conversation passed to your team still counts.
Essential, plus $0.99 per outcome. Advanced is $85 a seat and Expert $132. One full seat minimum; 14-day trial.
No seats, with Salesforce and others. A minimum monthly commitment applies; Intercom’s example is 50 outcomes.
What would Fin cost
at your volume?
Put in how many conversations the AI would take a month, and the share you expect to end as an outcome under Intercom’s rules. For one-question visitors that share is high; one customer quoted on Intercom’s pricing page reports a 50% resolution rate.
Each answer is billed at what the AI model charged for it, at 2,000 credits per dollar, and every conversation shows its own total. Questions your content doesn’t cover are answered with your fallback line without calling the model.
Intercom prices billed yearly, from its pricing page on 9 October 2026, before tax. The share of conversations that become outcomes is your estimate; Intercom does not publish an average. Builderify’s per-answer cost depends on the length of the question, the passages it reads and the answer, so this page does not put a number on it; packs start at $9, once.
Both answer from your content.
They differ in reach and in price.
Intercom says Fin “only provides answers based on your support content” and reports a hallucination rate under 1%. Builderify’s chatbot is built the same way. The real differences are how much content each can take in, what happens when it can’t help, and how you pay.
| Intercom Fin | Builderify AI Chatbot | |
|---|---|---|
| What it learns from | Help centre articles, snippets, PDFs, synced Zendesk, Confluence, Notion and more, and public URLs | Pages you add one URL at a time (up to 40,000 characters each), pasted text and question-and-answer pairs |
| Keeping it current | Website URLs re-sync weekly; native content almost instantly | Retrain a source when it changes; edit a passage and it retrains on the spot |
| When it doesn’t know | Says it didn’t find an answer and can hand over to a human | Gives your fallback line without calling the model, and lets the visitor flag it for your team |
| Handing over | Into the Intercom inbox or your helpdesk, with workflows | Flags the conversation and alerts you on Telegram; you follow up outside the chat |
| Actions and workflows | Procedures that can take steps for the customer | None: it answers questions |
| Languages | 46 listed in its help centre | Replies in the language the visitor writes in |
| Where it lives | Intercom Messenger, email and other channels | A block in your website’s floating widget |
| Pricing | $0.99 per outcome, plus seats or a monthly minimum | The AI’s cost per answer from 250 free credits a month; no seats, no minimum |
Is your FAQ ready
for an AI chatbot?
An AI that answers only from your content is only as good as that content. Paste your FAQ, one question per line ending in a question mark with its answer underneath, and the checker marks the answers a chatbot will struggle with. It applies to Fin and any other grounded bot. Nothing leaves your browser.

Passages are the 1,200-character pieces Builderify’s chatbot reads; it uses the five closest to each question. One pasted text can hold up to 200,000 characters.
A Fin alternative
sized for a small business site.
Builderify’s AI chatbot lives in your website’s floating widget and learns from the pages, text and questions you give it. By default it answers only when it finds the answer in that knowledge; otherwise it gives your fallback line and offers to pass the question to you. It is told never to state a price, date, address or link that isn’t in your content.
That is designed to refuse rather than guess, not a guarantee; read the transcripts, and turn a weak answer into a question-and-answer pair in one step. For questions that need a person in real time, Live Chat sits in the same widget.
What it does
- Answers from pages, pasted text and Q&A pairs you add
- Gives your fallback line, without an AI call, when your content has nothing
- Streams answers in the visitor’s own language
- Up to four suggested questions to start with
- Optional name and email before the chat starts
- Transcripts with ratings and the credits each one used
- Turns a weak reply into a Q&A pair from the transcript
- Tone, answer length and your own rules, up to 5,000 characters
Not yet
- Crawling a whole site or syncing pages on a schedule
- PDF or document uploads
- Links to the source in its answers
- Handing a chat straight to a live agent
- Actions or workflows, or channels beyond your website
- More than 20 visitor messages in one conversation
Conversations are kept for 180 days after their last message. At a zero credit balance the chatbot stops answering and shows your fallback message, and the widget pauses.
You run a support team on a helpdesk, with volume, and want the AI to take actions.
Intercom Fin. Content from your help centre and other tools, workflows and handover into your inbox. At $0.99 an outcome, it pays where each conversation would otherwise cost a person’s time.
Your site gets a few hundred questions a month, mostly the same twenty.

Fin and its alternatives, before you ask.
Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, charged once per conversation. On Intercom it comes on top of a seat plan, from $29 a seat a month billed yearly on Essential; used with another helpdesk there are no seat costs but a minimum monthly commitment applies, with 50 outcomes as Intercom's example. Prices from Intercom's pricing page on 9 October 2026.
Intercom counts an outcome when a customer confirms their issue is resolved, when they don't ask for more help after Fin responds, or when Fin completes a workflow, including handoffs. You are charged once per conversation, however many questions Fin answers in it.
Intercom says Fin only provides answers based on your support content and reports a hallucination rate under 1%, while noting that current AI models may occasionally give an incorrect answer. When Fin does not know, it says it did not find an answer and can hand over to a human.
For a small website answering the same common questions, a chatbot billed at the AI's actual cost can be cheaper than $0.99 per outcome. Builderify's AI chatbot answers from pages, text and Q&A you add, gives your fallback line without an AI call when your content has nothing, and has no seats or minimum, on 250 free credits a month. It does not take actions, crawl a whole site or hand a chat straight to a live agent.
Write each answer so it stands on its own: a full sentence, with the actual figure, time or day rather than a link to another page. Remove duplicates, split long answers into separate questions, and check anything that mentions an old year. The readiness checker on this page marks each of these in a pasted FAQ.
