Simple Analytics alternative
A tally is enough,
until you need the story.
The right Simple Analytics alternative depends on why you are leaving. To keep the same promise of no cookies and no consent banner but add revenue and funnels, Plausible’s Business plan or Fathom come closest, and Umami’s free plan covers a small site. To see what Simple Analytics leaves out on purpose (each visitor’s path, the page a lead signed up on, VPN and data-centre traffic shown apart), you need a tool that recognises returning visitors, such as Builderify User Journey. In the EU and UK, that means asking for consent first. If you need no personal data and no banner, stay where you are: nothing here beats Simple Analytics on that. Below are what it does well, why people switch, the options compared, and a fit checker that prices each at your traffic.

Illustration, not real data
What Simple Analytics does,
and leaves out on purpose.
Simple Analytics is a Dutch, EU-hosted analytics tool built around one promise: it collects no personal data. It sets no cookies, drops the IP address from every request, and does not derive any identifier from the IP or browser, “not even one that resets daily”. Its paid plan adds goals, events and multi-step funnels, and it offers an AI assistant you can question in plain English and raw data exports.
The trade is deliberate. Its “visitors” are unique page views, decided by the referrer, and the docs say plainly they are “not individual people tracked across sessions”. Events are grouped by page load, and nothing on the device carries an ID to the next page.
- €20/mo
- Self-serve at 100,000 page views a month, the first step on its price slider. The fee follows your usage, averaged over recent months. 14-day trial, no card. Source
- €0
- The Free plan for hobby sites: 5 websites, unlimited page views under fair use, and one month of history. A Simple Analytics badge is required. Source
- 0 cookies
- “We do NOT set any cookies (or use similar technologies).” No local storage, no fingerprinting, no IP address kept or hashed. Source
- NL
- “Your website data never leaves the Netherlands and, therefore, the E.U.” Simple Analytics B.V. calls itself EU-owned and EU-hosted. Source
What it records
- Time of the visit
- Anonymised browser
- Language
- Country, from the time zone
- Page path, no query string
- UTM parameters
- Referrer
- Screen size
- Time on page
- Scroll depth, in 5% steps
What it never keeps
- Cookies or local storage
- IP addresses
- A fingerprint
- An ID across page loads
- Personal data in event metadata
The last is a rule for you: its metadata docs warn that accounts sending email addresses or identifiers may be suspended.
You must not process personal data, or show a banner for analytics.
Stay with Simple Analytics. It was built for exactly this, and no tool that recognises a returning visitor can match it. If you move, move to another tool that makes the same promise, such as Plausible.
You want plain-English answers about your traffic.
Stay. Its AI assistant answers questions about your data with charts. None of the other tools here says it offers one.
You need years of history, or raw data for a BI tool.
Stay. The paid plan keeps three years, and data exports as CSV, raw data or through its APIs.
You want to know which visit converted, and what it was worth.
Look further. That needs either revenue tracking (Plausible Business, Fathom) or a tool that follows a visitor (Builderify). Sections 02 and 04.
Why look for a Simple Analytics alternative?
When you want more than counts.
Nobody leaves Simple Analytics because the counts are wrong. They leave when the question stops being “how many” and becomes “which one, and why”. Each of these needs something it refuses to keep.
-
01
Which visit converted
Simple AnalyticsGoals, events and multi-step funnels count conversions. Events are grouped by page load, and “nothing is stored on the visitor’s device to continue the ID across page loads”.
What you’d wantThe pages a buyer read before buying, and the ones a non-buyer read instead.
-
02
What each conversion was worth
Simple AnalyticsNumbers can travel as event metadata, and metadata can filter goals and exports. Revenue totals per goal are not stated.
What you’d wantA value on every goal, summed, so “37 sales” reads “37 sales, €1,813”.
-
03
One visitor, start to finish
Simple AnalyticsIts “visitors” are unique page views, counted from the referrer: “not individual people tracked across sessions”.
What you’d wantA timeline per person: first visit, return visits, every page, how long, how far down.
-
04
Where a lead signed up
Simple AnalyticsA signup can be an event. Which visit, page and post led to that particular person cannot be kept, by design.
What you’d wantThe signup written onto the visitor’s own timeline, with the form and page it happened on.
-
05
People, or VPNs and data centres
Simple AnalyticsRobot blocking filters bots, with advanced blocking on the paid plan. VPN and data-centre visits are not shown apart.
What you’d wantReal people, VPN or proxy users, and data-centre traffic counted separately, so a paid campaign can be judged.
-
06
One tool for the rest
Simple AnalyticsIt is analytics, and very good at it. Popups, forms, chat and email live in other tools, with other scripts.
What you’d wantAnalytics on the same script tag as the things that turn visitors into leads.
Numbers one and two are within reach of other privacy-first tools. Three to five need a tool that recognises a returning visitor, which is exactly what Simple Analytics refuses to do, and what puts a consent question back on the table.

* Simple Analytics’ price slider starts at 100,000 page views for €20. The price table behind it also has €15 up to 20,000 data points, and counts events as data points too. It bills in euros, dollars or pounds; Plausible shows $ or € depending on where you view it, with the same number.
Matomo, which keeps visitor profiles and can run on your own server, is in the Google Analytics alternative guide with GA4 and Microsoft Clarity.
Simple Analytics vs Plausible
The closest pair here, and the switch most people consider first. Both are EU-hosted, cookieless and built on a no-banner promise. The differences are in how each counts and what each charges for.
More on Plausible itself, and when to leave it, in the Plausible alternative guide.
- Counting
- Plausible derives a daily identifier from the IP, browser, site and a salt deleted every 24 hours. Simple Analytics derives none and decides uniqueness from the referrer.
- Price
- At 10,000 page views: Plausible Starter $9, Simple Analytics €15. At 100,000: $19 against €20. Plausible Business, for funnels and revenue, is $19 and $39.
- Depth
- Plausible Business adds revenue attribution, funnels and aggregated user journeys. Simple Analytics has funnels on its one paid plan; revenue is not stated.
- Openness
- Plausible is open source and can be self-hosted, which Simple Analytics’ own comparison page points out. Simple Analytics offers raw data export and an AI assistant.

Scores: a full point for each ticked item a tool covers, half a point where it covers it partly, nothing where it doesn’t or the vendor doesn’t say. Ties go to the lower price, with euros and dollars taken at face value. Prices are monthly billing on the cheapest plan that covers your list: Simple Analytics’ Free plan unless you tick something it doesn’t list for Free (its price table puts goals, events and the Stats API on the paid plan; AI and export are assumed to be there too), and Plausible’s Business plan when you tick funnels, revenue or export.
Builderify: 0.1 credits per new visitor plus 10 per 1,000 page loads, after 250 free credits a month. Anything over is shown as the cheapest one-time packs for a year of it, divided by twelve. See the pricing page.
Moving from Simple Analytics
to Builderify, habit by habit.
Add the one Builderify script tag to your site’s <head>, switch User Journey on, and run it next to Simple Analytics for a month before you decide anything. The same tag runs Builderify’s popups, forms, chat and email, so there is nothing else to install. Your Simple Analytics events become goals: here’s how to track button clicks, and what a visitor journey shows that a tally can’t.

What User Journey does
- Every visitor gets a readable name, such as “Swift Falcon”, and a page-by-page timeline with time, scroll depth and clicks
- Goals on a page visit, a custom event, a click, a form, scrolling, time on page or pages per visit, counted every time, once per visit or once per visitor
- Signups from Builderify forms, popups and quizzes appear on the visitor’s timeline, with the page they happened on
- Real people, VPN or proxy users and data-centre traffic counted apart
- Who is online now, and the busiest hours of the day
- Do Not Track respected, query strings ignored and paths excluded, all by default or one switch away
Know this first
- It sets first-party cookies and starts from a device fingerprint, so it is not a no-banner tool
- History is 7, 14 or 30 days at most, by design
- No UTM or campaign reports: sources come from the referrer
- No data export, API or AI questions yet
- Each extra website costs 100 credits
- If your credits run out, the widget pauses until you top up, and Journey with it
When the numbers raise a question, A/B Testing answers it on the same tag. If you are leaving Google Analytics too, replacing Google Analytics without losing data covers the order to do it in.
A Growth pack, 5,000 credits for $29, covers 14 months of that; the smallest, Starter, is $9. Packs are one-time and never expire. A visitor is charged once, the first time Journey sees them; a returning visitor is not charged again while their record is kept.
Start freeSimple Analytics alternatives, before you ask.
It depends on why you are leaving. For the same no-cookie, no-banner promise with revenue and funnels, Plausible's Business plan or Fathom are closest, and Umami has a free plan for one small site. To see each visitor's path, where a lead signed up and VPN or data-centre traffic shown apart, you need a tool that recognises returning visitors, such as Builderify User Journey, which needs consent in the EU and UK.
Both are EU-hosted and cookieless. Simple Analytics derives no visitor identifier at all, while Plausible uses a daily hash of the IP address and browser whose salt is deleted every 24 hours. At 10,000 page views Plausible Starter is $9 a month and Simple Analytics €15; Plausible is open source and puts funnels and revenue on its Business plan, while Simple Analytics offers an AI assistant and raw data export.
Its self-serve plan is €20 a month at 100,000 page views and €60 at 1 million, with a 14-day trial and no card needed, and the fee follows your actual usage. The Free plan for hobby sites covers 5 websites with one month of history and a required badge, without goals or events. Prices as read on 13 October 2026.
Plausible, Fathom and Umami, like Simple Analytics, say they need none because they set no cookies. Builderify User Journey sets first-party cookies and starts from a device fingerprint so it can follow one visitor, so in the EU and UK switch on its Wait for cookie consent setting, which records nothing until the visitor allows analytics in Builderify's cookie banner.
Yes, and it is often the best of both. Simple Analytics counts every visitor without consent, while Builderify User Journey, behind the cookie banner, shows the paths, goal values and lead sources of the visitors who allowed it. Journey uses 0.1 credits per new visitor and 10 per 1,000 page loads, from 250 free credits a month.
