WordPress quiz plugin
A test, or a funnel?
Pick the kind
before the plugin.
There are two kinds of WordPress quiz, and most quiz plugins are built for one. A graded test has right and wrong answers, a score and often a timer or a certificate; Quiz and Survey Master and Quiz Maker by AYS grade quizzes in their free versions. A lead quiz has no wrong answers: each visitor gets an outcome, gives an email to see it and joins a list for follow-up. Forminator does both kinds free, Mailchimp included. Elsewhere, free tiers tend to hold back outcome results, email-service links, branching and certificates, and WPForms, Formidable and Thrive keep quizzes on paid plans. Below: how to tell the kinds apart, what each free tier leaves out and what the first paid step costs, a matcher that finds the cheapest fit for your quiz, and Builderify’s lead quizzes on WordPress, gaps included.
By the Builderify team
Which WordPress quiz plugin?
Start with the kind of quiz.
Ask one question first: can an answer be wrong? If it can, you are grading a test, and the plugin has to know the right answers, add up a score and often time the attempt. If it can’t, you are running a lead quiz: every answer says something about the visitor, the result is an outcome, and what matters is what happens after it.
AOne is right; the others are wrong.
BNone is wrong. Each says something about the person answering.
AA score, a percentage, pass or fail, and often the right answers to review.
BAn outcome with its own message and button: a band of scores, or a type.
AAttempts and scores, often per logged-in learner.
BAn email address, on the list the outcome chooses.
ARight answers and scoring; often a timer, a question bank and a certificate.
BOutcomes, an email before the result, a list per outcome, and follow-up: through your email service, or sent by the tool itself.
ATeachers, trainers, course creators, trivia sites.
BShops, coaches, agencies, anyone qualifying or segmenting leads.
AQuiz and Survey Master, Quiz Maker by AYS, Forminator.
BForminator, free. Quiz and Survey Master does results by score and the email gate free; its email-service link is paid.
Two ways a lead quiz picks the outcome
By score: every answer carries points, the points add up, and the total lands in a range. It suits questions of degree: how ready, how big, how soon. That is how a lead scoring quiz sorts people into hot, warm and cold.
By type: each answer counts toward one result, and the result with the most answers wins. It suits “which one is right for you?” quizzes that recommend a product, a plan or a style. Plugins call it a personality, category or outcome quiz, and not every plugin that scores can do it.
Six answers add up to 26 of 30 points.
Result: the 22–30 outcome, “ready to repot”.
Six answers, each counted toward one type.
Result: “careful grower”, with the most answers.
Free by score: Quiz and Survey Master. Free by type: Forminator. Both, on paid plans: Quiz Maker by AYS, WPForms, Formidable Forms and Thrive Quiz Builder. Builderify does it by score only.
If the quiz checks what a learner took from a lesson, it belongs in a learning management system, which ties each attempt to the learner and the course. LearnDash starts at $399 a year for its Pro plan, with a quiz builder and certificates. Tutor LMS is free on WordPress.org, with over 100,000 active installs and quizzes with time limits, attempt limits and passing grades. A quiz plugin alone won’t track a course.
What do free WordPress quiz plugins
hold back?
Mostly the same four things: outcome results, the link to your email service, questions that branch, and certificates. Grading itself is usually free. Two of the best-known form builders go further: WPForms Lite has no quizzes at all, and the free Formidable Forms builds quiz forms but leaves grading to its paid plans.
Read the renewal line before the sale price. WPForms, Formidable and Thrive sell the first year at about half price and say renewals are at full price; Quiz Maker sells a one-time licence with a year of updates.

Which quiz plugin fits your quiz,
and what will it cost?
Pick the kind of quiz, then tick what it needs. The matcher checks seven tools against each need, finds the cheapest that covers them all, and prices Builderify at your traffic. Everything runs in your browser.
The whole site: the widget loads on every page.
People who give an email.
Counted when follow-up is ticked.
Covers all 3: Pay as you go, $0 a year: 225 credits a month, inside the 250 free. It runs in the widget rather than inside the post, and its emails go from your own domain. Also covers it: Quiz Maker by AYS ($49), Thrive Quiz Builder ($99), Quiz and Survey Master ($199).
Plugin prices are the vendor’s first paid step that covers every need you ticked, year one, before tax. Where a plugin follows up through Mailchimp or another email service, that service is billed on top. Builderify uses its rate card: 10 credits per 1,000 page loads, 1 per new lead, 0.5 per email, 250 free a month.

“Not listed” means we didn’t find the feature on the vendor’s own pages on 17 October 2026; Builderify’s “No” is from its code. Rows are sorted by what covers everything you ticked, cheapest first, then by how much each covers.
How does a lead generation quiz work on WordPress?
The email, then the follow‑up.
A lead quiz trades a result for an email address, so two decisions shape it more than the plugin does: when you ask for the email, and what you send once you have it.
Before the result
The answer is the rewardEveryone who wants the result gives an address; anyone who won’t, leaves without it. Use it when the result is worth asking for. Forminator’s lead form can sit here, and can be made skippable; WPForms can require the email before results; Thrive calls it an opt-in gate.
After the result
Show it, then askEveryone sees the result; only people who want more give an address. Fewer addresses, from people who chose to give them. Use it when the quiz is the first thing a stranger meets, or when the result is the product recommendation itself.
Then the follow‑up does the work
The quiz qualifies people; the emails after it are where they buy or book. Plan them per outcome before you build the quiz, because the outcomes decide the lists.
If you will send marketing emails, say so next to the email field. In the EU and the UK, marketing emails generally need consent, and a quiz result is no exception. This isn’t legal advice.
-
01
The outcome picks the list
Send each outcome to its own list, or its own tag in your email service, so the follow-up can speak to that result. Designing the outcomes themselves, points and bands included, is what the lead scoring quiz guide covers.
-
02
They confirm the address
A confirmation email keeps typos and other people’s addresses off your list, and records that they asked to join.
-
03
The first email repeats the result
People close the tab. Put the result, and the result’s button, in the first email of the outcome’s follow-up.
-
04
Two or three emails for that outcome
Useful first, then the offer. The welcome email sequence template has five to adapt, and affiliate marketers can start from the quiz funnel for affiliate marketing.
-
05
The result’s button sells, or books
Point the best outcome at a booking page. If you still need one, the WordPress booking plugin guide says what each free plan leaves out.
A lead generation quiz on WordPress,
in the widget, gaps listed.
Builderify Quizzes runs scored lead quizzes. Each answer carries points, the total lands in an outcome band, and each band has its own result screen, button and leads list. The quiz is a block in the floating widget, and on WordPress it goes in with the Builderify plugin.
-
1. Install the plugin
In Builderify, open Connect › Snippet, choose the WordPress tab and download builderify.zip. In WordPress, go to Plugins › Add New Plugin › Upload Plugin, install and activate it, then paste your site key under Settings › Builderify. It needs WordPress 6.2 and PHP 7.4 or later.
-
2. Build the quiz
Under Quizzes, start from the Lead qualifier template, three questions with Hot, Warm and Cold bands, or from blank. Questions can be pick one, pick several, rate it or type an answer, and any answer can jump to another question.
-
3. Give each outcome a list
Each outcome is a range of scores with a heading, text, a button and the list it feeds. A fallback list catches a score outside every band, and a checklist keeps the quiz off until both 0 and the top score land in one.
-
4. Add it to the widget
Add the Quiz block to your Floating Bubble and choose the quiz it runs.
-
5. Link it from a post
In the Quiz block’s Triggers panel, Open it from a link gives you a link to paste as the URL of any button or text link in the block editor. A click opens the widget on the quiz.
The block key is filled in for you in the Triggers panel. Prefer no plugin? WPCode or Code Snippets can add the Builderify tag to the site header instead.
What it does
- Points per answer; a rating scores the number picked, up to 10
- Jumps to another question by answer or by question
- Outcomes by score band, each with its own result, button and list
- The email before the result, or the result first and the email after; name and phone if you ask
- Answers saved as tags and custom fields on the lead
- The score worked out on Builderify’s server; points never reach the browser
- A confirmation email, then the list’s sequences start
- Drop-off per question, completion rate, average score and the share in each outcome
What it isn’t for
- Graded tests: no right answers, pass marks, timers or certificates
- Results by type: outcomes are score bands
- Sitting inside a post: it opens in the widget, from the bubble or a link
- Two quizzes live at once: one Quiz block per site; build several and switch
- Emailing the result: put it in the first email of the outcome’s sequence
- Sending leads to Mailchimp: they stay in Builderify’s own lists
There is no quiz plan and no response cap. The widget is 10 credits per 1,000 page loads across the site, each new lead is 1 credit and each follow-up email 0.5, from one balance shared with everything else in the widget. Every account gets 250 free credits a month; packs start at $9 for 1,000, never expire, and are on the pricing page.
- The Builderify plugin isn’t on WordPress.org yet: you download it from your dashboard, and new versions from there too.
- Confirmation emails and sequences go out from your own domain, and a person reviews each new sender, usually within one business day. Until then, quiz leads wait as pending.
- If your credits run out, the widget pauses, and the quiz with it, until you top up. The cookie banner keeps running.
Which WordPress quiz plugin
should you pick?
These are the calls we’d make, including the ones where the answer isn’t us.
You’re grading a test, with a timer and a certificate.
Quiz Maker by AYS, whose free version grades and times quizzes; certificates come with a Business licence, $49 one-time. Or Quiz and Survey Master, free for grading and timing, with certificates from its Basic bundle at $149 a year.
The quiz is part of a course.
An LMS. Tutor LMS is free on WordPress.org; LearnDash starts at $399 a year. Each ties attempts to the learner and the course.
You want a “which one are you?” quiz that feeds Mailchimp, for nothing.
Forminator. Its personality quizzes, lead form and Mailchimp integration are all in the free plugin.
You already pay for WPForms Pro or Formidable Business.
Use its quiz addon. Both do graded, scored and personality quizzes, so there is nothing new to install or learn.
You build with Thrive and want to A/B test the quiz itself.
Thrive Quiz Builder, $99 the first year, then $199, or inside Thrive Suite.
A scored lead quiz, a list per outcome, follow-up from your own domain, and chat or bookings in the same widget.
Builderify. Pay as you go from 250 free credits a month, with no quiz plan. If the quiz must sit inside the post, grade answers, or hand leads to Mailchimp, pick one of the above.
Collecting emails without a quiz? Free signup popups for WordPress and sending a newsletter from WordPress cover the rest of the list. And if a quiz plugin would be one more on a long list, how many WordPress plugins is too many measures what each one costs your pages.
WordPress quiz plugins, before you ask.
It depends on the kind of quiz. For graded tests, Quiz and Survey Master and Quiz Maker by AYS both grade and time quizzes in their free versions. For lead quizzes, Forminator's free plugin does personality quizzes, a lead form before the results and a Mailchimp integration. WPForms Lite has no quizzes, and Thrive Quiz Builder has no free version.
Yes. Forminator's free plugin can ask for an email before the results and send leads to Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign or HubSpot. Quiz and Survey Master shows results by score range and collects emails free, but its Mailchimp addon comes in the Plus bundle at $199 a year. Builderify runs scored lead quizzes on its 250 free credits a month, in its site widget rather than inside a post.
Only on paid plans. The WPForms Quiz Addon, with graded tests, personality quizzes, scored assessments and an email before results, is included with WPForms Pro and Elite. On 17 October 2026 Pro cost $199.50 for the first year, renewing at $399 a year; WPForms Lite has no quizzes.
A graded quiz has right and wrong answers and gives a score, a percentage or pass or fail. A personality quiz has no wrong answers: each answer counts toward a type, and the type with the most answers is the result. A lead quiz can also pick its result by score, adding up points per answer and landing the total in a range.
Asking before the result collects an address from everyone who wants their answer, but people who won't give one leave without it. Asking after shows everyone the result and collects fewer addresses, from people who chose to give them. Either way, say next to the field what they are signing up for.
